Welcome to SpinTunes! Ken Plume apparently grew weary of running Masters of Song Fu -- so Travis Langworthy stepped in to fill the void! This is the first of hopefully many SpinTunes challenges . . .
I’ve had a long history of writing songs that were unique and unlike any other submissions for a given challenge. And I’ve taken quite a bit of pride in finding approaches that hadn’t occurred to anyone else. Such is the case here. We had to write a song from the point of view of a superhero or a villain, but I didn’t want to write a song that would be similar to other submissions, so I had to dig a bit deeper for my idea. (And I rather like the direction the song took!)
This song, I think, takes a different look at what it means to be a “superhero.” There’s the public perception -- sure. But there’s also the mantle and the burden borne by the hero him/herself. So what happens if an otherwise normal person decides to step up and become a superhero? What kind of resolve does that take? What events conspired to bring that person to the point where he or she is faced with that particular choice? (And does how well does the hero’s self-assessment align with the perceptions of the greater society?)
This song was a lot of fun to write. Particularly because I imagine it will make listeners think . . .
